OpenStack will always be my first love! I started my cloud journey with OpenStack Cloud. I went on to become one of the top contributors for its Messaging and Notification Service called Zaqar. There was no looking back, I have been passionate about the cloud since then.

After graduating from UT Arlington, I kick-started my career in the US, working for the very best in the Airline Industry — American Airlines, Inc. I got to learn a lot of Azure from experienced architects and co-workers in my team. I have been honestly very satisfied with all the services Azure offered. I was indeed surprised when their Azure leads and managers were so keen on solving the issues I faced and even proactively replied to my questions on Twitter, rest assured there are here to help their customers.

This blog post is primarily dedicated to folks interested in making a transition from OpenStack to Azure. The transition was not as daunting for me as I predicted. This would primarily be a 101 post where I would be jotting all the key points which were helpful for me to make a shift from OpenStack to Azure.

OpenStack is open-source software for creating public and private clouds. Azure is an ever-expanding set of cloud computing services that gives you the freedom to build, manage, and deploy applications on a massive, global network using your preferred tools and frameworks.

SDKs and Management Tools

OpenStack offers openstackclient as the command-line interface for all OpenStack services and Horizon, a dashboard as a service for OpenStack. In Azure, we have Azure CLI, Azure Powershell, Azure mobile app, and Azure portal.

OpenStack offers only python SDK for OpenStack APIs. Azure supports .NET, Python, Node.js, Java, and Go SDKs.
